Paddling through the Sarthe

Paddling through the Sarthe

The Sarthe has seen a growing interest in activities such as canoeing and kayaking. Now, you can take the opportunity to travel the magnificent rivers of the region and particularly the Huisne, a picturesque tributary of the Sarthe. Treat yourself to an adventure on the water during your stay at the Hotel Le Mans Country Club.

Travel the Huisne to discover the Le Mans region

From its source in the heart of the Perche, the Huisne carries its gentle meanders to Le Mans, where it joins the Sarthe. Along its route, it passes through small towns and villages full of character, such as La Ferté-Bernard, the canal-crossed Renaissance-era centre of which is listed as a Historic Monument. As you glide along, you pass through the various landscapes of the Le Mans countryside, including forests, meadows, bocages and wetlands. The river’s tranquil route offers no difficulties, and riding the slightly faster sections is fun rather than a technical challenge!

Your canoe-kayak adventure on the Huisne

Several clubs and service providers offer canoe-kayak outings on the Huisne. You can opt for a trip supervised by a guide who will tell you about the architectural and natural heritage encountered along the way. Or you might prefer to go self-guided by renting a canoe from one of a number of providers. It’s great fun solo, as a couple or with your family. Different routes are offered from a few kilometres up to 17 km and you can choose a half-day or full-day package. Equipment such as life jackets is supplied and generally included in the rental price upfront.

Le Mans and its region offer green, eco-responsible tourism that invites you to explore its natural and architectural heritage. Discover the joys of canoeing on the Huisne! The Hotel Le Mans Country Club team is happy to provide you with the information you need and help you arrange your river adventure.
