L'Arche de la Nature: 500 hectares of greenery to discover

With its thematic exhibition spaces, farm, vegetable garden, and forest preserve, the Arche de la Nature (Ark of Nature) offers a fun and relaxing way to immerse yourself in the beautiful natural world close to Le Mans. You can wander at will there or discover the local fauna and flora by following educational trails such as those of the arboretum and the aquarium. The potager garden, the apiary and the orchard also offer fun trails. And, with bicycle and canoe rental, disc golf, and hiking, there is no shortage of healthy and active things to do for all the family!

 

The Gallo-Roman wall shelters a haven of greenery in the heart of Le Mans

In the centre of the city, you can take a delightful walk along the 500 metres of astonishingly well-preserved Gallo-Roman wall. Its polychrome ornamentation forms remarkable geometric patterns. The wall is bordered by greenery, including a gorgeous medieval garden, providing an oasis of calm and freshness between the Cité Plantagenêt and the Sarthe. In summer, it turns into a giant screen for the fabulous Nuits des Chimères (Nights of Chimeras). The stunning art and imagery projected onto the ancient stones enchant young and old alike.

 

There’s no shortage of family activities in and around Le Mans, from visiting the 24 Hours Museum to canoeing down the Huisne, as well as walks in the region’s picturesque villages.
